Hi all,

--THE PART NEEDED-- (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/frtfendrwhlh.JPG)

I didn't know what the Name of this piece off my 71 Chevelle was avaiilable and If it was being reprodced from GOODMARK IND.?

I bead blasted the piece and thought it was pretty pitted up to try and save, (lots easier to just get a new repro or NOS part).

Please help... thank you.

I thought these were your inner front fender braces, but I can't be sure. What part of the car did you remove them from?

Anyway, you could just take some good metal filler and smooth it on, let it dry, sand and prime it. It would most likely come out looking like new. Plus, it would be the original part, so you KNOW it would fit right.

Yes, they're up in front of the inner fenders and If I remember right the front grill attaches to it also... What's a good metal filler to smooth over the pits??

Thank you for the response -- Jim

Evercoat Metal-2-Metal filler is pretty good. You can find at in the Eastwood catalog if your local paint shop does not carry it. I'm sure some of the pro body guys here have some other alternatives, too.

I dont believe that part is repro. If that part is the same as a 72 i might some.

Anyway depending on how deep those pits, looks like some simple 2K urethane primer should fill them. Might have to block out once with 180 dry then recoat.

Before you apply any filler or paint product you should reblast those to remove any micro rust pits already starting to grow. Rust will form on a blasted surface faster then a nice smooth surface. On bare metal am a big fan of etch primer then 2K primer. Going the PPG route use dx1791 then K36 or K38. Dupont, variprime then uroprime or anyother surfacer as its been some time since I sprayed dupont...Eric
