TODAY I DROVE MY 69 CHEVELLE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 99' WAS A BASKET CASE WHEN PURCHASE. AFTER DRIVING IT ABOUT 25 MILES I NOTICE MY ALUMIUM INTAKE IS TURNING A COPPER BROWNISH COLOR, THE CARB IS A 3310 780 HOLLEY THE ENGINE IS A 69 396 WITH AN AUTO, THE CAR RAN GREAT, BUT I DONT LIKE AND KNOW SOMETHING ISNT CORRECT WITH THE DISCOLORATION. ANY KIND OF HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

ONE MORE THING WERE YOU YOU GUYS HOOK THE VACCUUM ADVANCE UP ON THE 780s? THERE IS NO SECONDARY VACUUM PORTS ON MY CARB NOR KNOCKOUTS, EVERY PORTS ON MY CARB HAS VACUUM AT IDLE.

where at on the intake was this discoloration? was it in the middle of the intake on both sides below the carb? if so that is where the exh. cross over is and the intake getts the hottest there.

ya i would say a little discoloration is normal in that spot. if it gets real bad i would wonder how hot the exh. is getting. could be your running too lean on the fuel mixture or possibly the timming is too retarted and the fuel is still burning hot as it exits the cyl. but if the car is running good and feels like it has good power i wouldn't worry about it. some discoloration i would say is normal in that location.
