I just got my first 65 and it doesn't have a rearend. I got a 67 that katrina put two oaks on her that I can get the rear out of but it's an 8.2. The 65 has right at 450hp and will be used to play hard. Please tell me the easiest 8.5 or 12 bolt "possible posi" that will fit Year\Model. I can cut the mounts off the 8.2,, my brother been welding for 28yrs. I could go look under every car in the junk yard but if you could help me it would be appreciated.
One more thing the axle tubes on an 8.2 are 3" in dia. and so are the 8.5 3". they are both 28 spline axles. The axle bearings part number match the same as well..could I just cut the tubes off the 8.2 and weld them to the 8.5 chunk with the correct total length of the 8.2 tubes\axles? Thanks, Go Chevelles!!

There are very few 8.5 rear ends that will fit your car, and they are all going to be 1 inch wider. There are some A bodys from '71 and '72 that had the 8.5, but they are rare. Don't bother with anything from '73 and up, they are not the same. If you find one of these 8.5 rear ends there will be no need for any cutting or welding. They will bolt into your car using the controll arms that are in your car now.

I was considering going to an 8.5 also, because of the high cost of 12 bolts. But I just couldn't find anything other than BOP 8.5 rears, and they were pricey also. So after daily searching through classifieds, i found an open 12 bolt from a Monte for 300 bucks!

The BOP 8.5 is the same as the corporate 8.5, other than the bolt in axles. The internal parts are the same. This does not include the "O" axle.
