: I got some track time on the 489. Going faster.
Whittaker Apr 29th, 06, 10:54 AM Well I got some track time last night. On the 275/60/15 BFG street tires so I was traction limited some. MY best was 12.4879@111.68 .7999 reaction and lousy 60ft 2.0162.
This is running my 870 Street Avenger Holley and 2 1/2 full exhaust. I also have an Edelbrock fuel pump stock 3/8" line. A 2500 stall and 3.50:1 gears.
I feels like I run short of fuel and traction for sure.
What can I do cheaply to get more out of her. I have some South Side Machine lift bars to put it first.
THanks,
ROb
Bob West Apr 29th, 06, 11:15 AM Aint nothing cheap from now on :D Carter 172gph fuel pump or Comp140 electric, 3" exhaust minimum w/crossover, sticky tires, you've only just begun. Pretty good e.t. for the maiden voyage
Xtreme70SS396 Apr 29th, 06, 1:26 PM Cheap: Big fuel log will help on the starvation at the top end.
Correct: 1/2" fuel line from the tank.
Traction: good luck!!
Whittaker Apr 29th, 06, 3:54 PM The ain't cheap I know for sure. Bigger carb, exhaust, fuel system, convertor, tires, ect.
What single thing would be the best bang for the buck? Prioritize.
Also street slicks or drag radials?
Bob West Apr 29th, 06, 4:40 PM MT drag radials,
1. exhaust
2. fuel pump
3. converter
4. carburetor
Whittaker Apr 29th, 06, 5:09 PM I was thinking exhaust first. Not as expensive as the others.
Thanks for the input Bob. How is yours running?
Bob West Apr 29th, 06, 5:20 PM Its running fine, just not hooking consistently yet. I purchased 30x10.5 Hoosier radial slicks and some KONI shocks for the front, will give that a shot. We were rained out today. If the rain moves out, might venture over to the 1/4 mile track and run in their No/E race tomorrow. I've been running low 9's in the 1000ft, which is high 10's 1/4 mile.
69-CHVL Apr 29th, 06, 6:05 PM I surprised you gotta 60' that low...are they BFG radial T/A's?
Whittaker Apr 29th, 06, 6:06 PM It rained a bit up here today as well Bob. I want to try out the 1/8th mile track in Charleston IL because it is closer. Driving the Velle to the 1/4 mile track in Morrocco IN is a long haul. The gas and entry fees are killers. But it is one heck of a lot of fun.
What size rim and back space should I look for in a drag radial for the 66?
GIve it hell Bob.
Whittaker Apr 29th, 06, 6:18 PM Yep BFG radial TAs.
Bob West Apr 29th, 06, 6:29 PM 15x8 with 4.5 backspacing, 275/60/15. I think that would work on your car, but I'd double check.
69-CHVL Apr 29th, 06, 6:30 PM Pretty impressive. Here's my non-professional opinion.
Your on the 11 second door. A little more gear would help. I think you could kill 2 birds w/one stone here. Get another set of cheap wheels and some 275/50/15 dragradials. They are 26" tall vs. the 28" you have now, so you'll get the effect of a little more gear, plus the ability to knock maybe .4-.5 off of your 60' time. Price, about 400.00.
The 3" exhaust would be a big help at your power level. Maybe just get the X head pipe and keep your 2.5 muffs and tails. Cost, under 200.00.
