I need to replace both quarters on my '69. What are your guy's thoughts on full quarters versus the skins. I know the full quarters cost alot more but I want this done right. I just have had not experiense with the skins and they look like alot of welding and filler. Also I know the Goodmark full quarters are not available yet, but has anybody used the ones from Ground-Up. Are they good quality. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did one full on the R/S, one repro skin on the L/S. One of the reasons I did the repro was, after drilling out all those spot welds and being so concerned about the alignment, I figured I'd save the drilling and not have to worry too much about alignment since I left the old edges intact and butt welded about an inch back from them. So, I ended up spending alot of time filling and sanding instead. There was a certain amount of filling and sanding on the O.E.M, since they all have imperfections, but not nearly as much as on the repro (which also has imperfections). I don't think anyone will ever know the difference in the two sides, but If I had to do it again, I'd go with the full quarter and drill, drill drill!

A full 1/4 is the only way to go if they are available. I have done many of both and the amount of finish work / filler on a full 1/4 compared to a partial ( which is really an oversized patch panel ) is minimal. Plus you don't have all those extra seams and when you look upward in trunk it looks factory. Fitment of a full 1/4 is not difficult. You just have to take your time & recheck things. One thing is have vehicle sitting w/ suspension loaded. In otherwords you would want jackstands under rear axle to duplicate the way car would set on tires. Also, when checking fitment make sure your weatherstrips are in good shape and even install to simulate how car will be when reassembled. I have seen a car put together w/o fitting of the parts and then painted. Upon reassembly it was a nightmare. Also, make sure your door hinges are not loose. Repin & bush as neccessary to ensure everything will line up well the FIRST time. Use plenty of vise grips to hold in place when fitting also. One other thing to look @ is outer wheelhouses of replacing because of rust. It's easier to just replace them then it is to try to work w/ rust. Feel free to ask more questions. Good luck, JOHN

Darran, go with quality full quarters, please.

I chose quarter skins on my 67 Chevelle and deeply regret it. The body guy who is doing my car was an excellent body man, but even his experience and skills weren't enough to get descent alignment and fit.

The extra cost of full quarters is well worth it in the end!!
