On 1969 to 1972 Chevelle consoles, can you change a four speed console to an automatic by changing the the area for the shifter. I was told the console base was all the same,the shifter area was the only difference.Thanks for any help.

The plate is all that you have to change out to go to a 4 speed.

Original Parts Group has the reproduction console top plate and dial assembly to convert yours to automatic. $127 for both. However, if you can find an original, use it. The quality is better than on the repros.

If you want the finished look you will also need the rubber boots and the plastic slider,which fits in the groove on the inside of the console sold by Year One or possibly Ground up Restorations.
