: I have no luck....Question concerning ARP rod bolts

Well.......
I almost purchased my assembly through Mike Lewis at Lewis Racing engines, BUT my best friend whom purchased the engine in my car had a bunch of money in paypal so i agreed to let him order it with this "Spare Money".

I was going through the parts checking out the balancing sheet ect and i noticed wait a minute those arent L19 Rod bolts like i specified about 10 times to the vendor. Those arent even ARP2000 bolts instead they are the basic bolts and totally useless to me. The engine will see 700+ HP and i plan to run a 250 shot on it. Which is exactly why i specified L19 ( i have had great luck with them on small blocks, totally eliminated my rod failures at high rpm ) bolts. ARP2000 would have been acceptible. :( i knew it would bite me in the a$$ not letting Mike put me a Scat assembly together.

At any rate here is the question since the combo is already balanced i cant change weights anywhere. I have looked at ARP.com but i cant find how much more the ARP2000 or L19 bolts weight over the standard 8740. Does anyone have a bolt they can weigh. Maybe one of the machine shop guys can step in here with a recommendation. If they are a few grams difference would it be possible to run them? I guess since the rods have alignment dowels and use capscrews i assume the rod would not need to be checked after changing bolts........

Its my fault.....Opinions appreciated

Thanks
Shawn

Update.... Vendor says L19 bolts are 1 gram heavier. I asked to weigh a ARP2000 as well. He says i can return them for weight matched set with L19 would it not be acceptible to weigh them on a postal scale then put the new bolts in and check the weight if its no more than a gram or 2 i could run wif it? or maybe grind 2 grams off? I mean how is he going to provide me with a new set of rods the same length with heavier bolts and still weight the same as the old set without grinding something?
Am i over reacting here? Back in the day i used to polish beams and weight match using one of those little balancers, but i really dont know at what point something really starts throwing the balance job off. Also i would assumed that 1 gram would only affect each throw and its counter weight balance.

good ole bad luck rearing its ugly wittle head! Well at least i know my heads will be right.

Well what can I say :D

Seriously, the bolts will make no differeence what so ever in the balance.
=============EDIT==============
Just read you second post,,,
If this is one of the "balanced rotating assemblies" that are being sold by most of the mail order places it would be the first one that I would have seen that is any where near ± one gram

Their idea of a balanced rotating assembly seems to differ from mine a
bit :D

HAHA dang it Mike he begged me to let him use Paypal!!!! The vendor said the ARP2000 weight exactly the same and the only reason the L19's are heavier is that they have a larger head!

They apply a little more clamping force when torqued to spec, would you guys think that would change the roundness and/or clearance at the rod? I assume the rod is sized with the bolts in it. Sigh....

Highly doubtful, I have never seen it happen.
I have seen the rods change size a bit when loosening & tightening a few times though so you want to cycle them a few times & remeasure if you can.

BTW, should have called, I can do Paypal, I just add a little for the stupid charges ;)
