: Rocker noise is killing me!

Recently did a complete rebuild/frame off, and my '67 427 (+.060) has a rocker arm noise that is driving me crazy. Anyone else having troubles with Comp Cams? I have a 270H that I put in, along with 3/8 pushrods, and a complete Comp valvetrain. It is quiet when cold, but shows up when it gets warmer. My machinist said that it is something that is notorious with BB Chevys, and I want to know what you guys think. I have checked the rockers 4-5 times, set them hot and cold both. 1/2-5/8 turn after clattering quits, using poly locks, stock rockers. Engine runs great, just hate the noise, and it is not that bad, but it is noticeable to others and myself. Getting plenty of oil, and I still have rotella in it, gonna change after a few more miles. Oil shouldn't make a diff anyways, neither should the fact that it shows up when warm.

Any ideas you engine experts?

Welcome to the club. I've got a 350 with a 270H. Pretty normal sounding when cold but sounds like a bad lifter or something when it gets warm. Very loud! I'm still trying to track down the source. I've eliminated a lot of things. The engine runs great and makes plenty of power, but is noisy as heck. I'm not convinced it's normal, though, so I'll keep trying to track it down.

I had a simmilar problem, after 2 years of anoying warm engine only lifter noises it turned out to be a bad header gasket that leaked when the hot metal did some expanding.

I run the XE 274H, same problem.. After about 15 mins, it sounds like a friggen sewing machine.. Others have said thatit's due to the XE grinds being over aggressive, actually making the valves slam shut..

I don't know, but I sure wish I would have put a Voodo cam in it..I HATE the way it sounds..

I have a 468 that was having the same problem and after resetting the the valves so many times with no luck on the sound, I went with a solid cam and figured that they are supposed to make noise. When doing the change it was dicovered that the pushrod were a little short and the noise was them slapping. Check the fit of your rod along with the slot for the rods. It worked for me but I stayed with the solid and it sounds like a sewing machine and I love it.

Check the slot of the rockers to see if the rods are bouncing around. My bad on the earlier post

Ihave the same problem with the 270 Comp in my 454. It’s coming out and getting the Voodoo 60202. The guy at Comp Cam (Red) told me this was normal as did there rep at a Goodguys show. I don’t care what they say this is not normal for a Hyd cam. I even went as far as having my lifter bores redone. It sound great when cold but sound like sh!T when warm
