i need to replace the lower section of my rear quarter panel(from back of fender to rear bumper).is it possible to weld it in with a stick welder or is a wire welder the only way to go without risking damage? if using a stick is possible what type and size of rod is best and what power setting on the welder? thanks.

mig welder would be best, better control and gas sheilded to prevent slag which you will get with a stick welder.i recommend mig settings 2 3/4 voltage and wire feed of 4 on a miller.

Bowtie455,
I agree with Snowtrav, trying to do it with a stick, is not a good idea. You would have to use a really thin stick, which would wrobble all over the place. The only way to use a Stick is to cut it down, so it is somewhat stiff. I have done it, but I would strongly recommend against it. If you can borrow a mig with gas, it will do a better job. You will have less of a mess when your done also. In my opinion, you will be less likely to burn through the panel, with a mig. Make sure you are real happy with the alignment, before you start that first weld.
Fred.
