: gallon capacity of cooling system?

Can someone help me? My radiator burst a hole in the core and I am having it recored tomorrow. My question is that while it is entirely out, I am going to pull the drain plugs on the block and flush the entire system since it was recently boiled when the engine was rebuilt. I have heard that you should flush the engine shortly after the break in to remove any of the acids that might be in the system still to prevent failure of any cooling components.

My question is.... how many quart or gallon capacity would my car be? I have a 70 El Camino SS 396 (402 big block engine) with A/C and auto tranny. The radiator is a 4 core radiator if it matters. I am thinking it was around 8 gallons (4 gals of coolant and 4 gals of distilled water) when I redid the engine but I can not remember for sure. I would like to make only one trip to Wal-Mart and get the anti-freeze instead of 3 trips like the last time.

Thanks,

Brian

Man, The big blocks use a lot of coolant. M 406sb in my 70 with a 2 core aluminum radiator used exacty 4 gallons total.
