Hello all I was just wondering if anyone has pulled the body off the frame on there car. I am curious because I have the car stripped to the firewall with all new suspension disc etc and this being my first chevelle am not familiar with the undercarriage is it something a backyard mechanic could accomplish with some friends and jackstands? I powdercoated my control arms and really liked the look and a powdercoated frame is something I am really condsidering.
thanks in advance for any input..

If you've got the whole front end off then it's not hard to go all the way. There are about 10 bolts holding the body to the frame. Then, you have to do something with the fuel lines and e-brake cable and brake lines to master before lifting it. I don't think there's anything more there. 4 strong people could lift the body off without an interior or doors. I doupt it if the interior and doors are still on it though. Maybe more friends?

I did mine by myself. I got it in this (http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ochrisl/detail?.dir=/1970+Chevelle-Pictures&.dnm=removing+the+body.jpg) position with a few floor jacks, blocks of wood and jackstands, then managed to roll the frame right out from under the body.I took the rear tires off and to clear the front 6x6 and used a floor jack under the rear to roll it the rest of the way out.The i jacked the front up high enough to get two horses under the 6x6. You may want a sturdier setup than i had but it sat that way for two months with no problem

i did my 67 by myself with nothing more than a floor jack, 2-4x6s, 4 floor stands and several 16x16x4 concrete pads. i took me a while as i kept having to move the floor jack back and forth as i jacked it up but i feel the trouble was worth it. if ya dont do it know you may regret it later.

I used my hoist with a boat strap to lift the body and then set it on 2 dbl 2x4 beams straddled across some stands that I made for this purpose. Lifted the body with dad assisting (overseeing as the body was raised). I have made alot of progress since raising the body. The entire chassis is now coated with POR-15 and looks great.
You will be able to easily get to everything graemlins/thumbsup.gif
