In 1970 was it possible to get an SS car with a 12-bolt, 3.31 geared open rearend? I am curious if that was possible from the factory. That is what my car currently has but I know this is not the original rear for the car.

Yes, that was the standard rear end for many of those cars. Positive traction was an option, not standard equipment.

My 70 SS elky had that rear end. It was somewhat of a thrill with the BB in the rain.

Cool. I was assuming this is not the original, but now I guess there is a small possibility that it is. Would part of the vin be stamped on the rear? If so, where is it normally located on a 70 rear?
