: Swapping Pulleys - Can't Get Old One Off - Ideas?

Hey all, just doing a swap to the CS130 alternator from an 88 Firenza and I cannot for the life of me get the old pulleys off. I have tried putting an allen key in the shaft and then using a wrench, but only managed to begin to round out the corners of the allen key hole. Any ideas on the best way? Also, this is a standard thread correct? Righty-tighty lefty-loosey and all that? Don't want to find out after I destroy the fan that I was cranking the wrong direction.

While I am asking, does anyone know of an upper bracket that is a direct bolt on for this swap? I have the typical one that bolts to the water neck and water pump, and I will have to weld on an extra tab to get it to work.

Thanks everyone.

Zap the nut off with an impact. Wrap a belt around the pulley to hold it so you dont rip your hand up when you pull the trigger!!

I believe if you take it to a parts store they will be glad to do it for you for free! I've always used an impact gun myself.

Yeah, I would use an impact gun, but I no longer have an operating one, the closest thing I have right now is just an impact driver, which does not seem to have enough torque. I like the idea of wrapping a belt around the pulley though to keep it stationary, maybe I will try that as I use a socket. Keep the ideas coming though!

Thanks guys!

Got it, some WD-40 and my impact driver was able to do the job. Just in case someone else is in a similar situation sometime.

If you don't have an air impact wrench your nearest garage/working gas station/machine shop etc. is likely to have one and a five dollar bill and a smile will likely get you back in good shape.
