I recently bought a repro outside door mirror to replace my original '70 mirror. When I got home I was disapointed to find that it was different in a few ways.
Specifically
1. The back end of the cylinder part of the bracket (the part that the adjustment ball and post are mounted "inside of") is flat rather than outwardly round like my original.
2. Also my original has kind of a casting seam down the back side.
3. And the repro came with a rubber gasket around the glass that my original doesn't have
So, since this repro "sucked" (IMHO) I decided to watch for a NOS GM mirror at shows and such.
As luck would have it I came across someone on "The Net" who had one listed. So I bought it. Now that I have it in mu posession I'm trying to figure out if it is indeed NOS since it too looks a little different than my original.
My Questions:
Did GM have more than one manufacurer of their mirrors?
This new one I bought is "concave" on the back of the cylinder part (that I descibed above) and it doesn't have the "rough edged" seam like my original down the back.
However,
1. It has a part# inside of HA 61071
2. And it has a date code? of 8-DCA-9 printed on the top part of the glass (my original is 9-DMI-9)
Is this a genuine NOS mirror?
Thanks as always for your feedback!
