I have a 66 Malibu convertible SS clone. I'm not a stickler for originality (good thing, with an unoriginal 350 under the hood and a 67 frame going in this winter). But I hate the SS clone part, I'm tired of saying "No, it's not a real one. No, it's not a 396."
With the exception of the SS hood, which is just too cool to part with, and the rocker panel trim (which I believe is an SS thing), I'd like to go back to the original insignia.
Does anyone know, or know of a web site that clearly states, what insignia came on a 66 V8 Malibu convertible and where on the car each is located? Thanks.

My 67 has a Malibu(its kind of a "cursive" italic like one, not the block one) emblem on each quarter panel. It has the "V Flag" emblem on each fender in the front. Not the 396 cross flags, just the regular flag one. And it had some trim that went on it down the side of the car, towards the bottom, but not to the rocker panel. I've also see the size of the engine emblem above(i think above) the V flags. I hope this helps. If you get a good catelog if will show the years for all the emblems and pics of them.

On a 66 Malibu (hardtop/coupe or convertible), the Malibu had the "Malibu" script emblem on the rear quarter, roughly where the "SuperSport" emblem is... For actual dimensions, see the assembly manual...
On the rear taillight panel there is a large chrome medalian/emblem with a plastic insert (red white and blue insert). This is centered side to side, but not sure about up and down...
There is a "Chevelle" emblem on the trunk lid, and it is a different emblem than the one on the SuperSport rear panel...
The Malibu has smooth rocker molding (unlike the ribbed SS/El Camino molding), and NO rear quarter rocker extensions...
The front fender emblems are different, but I believe they may be centered/located in the same place.
Same wheel well mouldings as the SS, and really the same grill and headlight extensions as an SS, just not all blacked out on the Malibu...
The 1966 Malibus do NOT have the same side molding as the 1967 cars.
Inside, its the same except the SuperSport Emblem on the glove box. Actually, the plastic above the glove box is the same for both cars and if yours is a clone, you might be able to remove the emblem. The words "Malibu" are embossed into the plastic, and the
"SuperSport" emblem just goes over the Malibu...
No "SS" or "Malibu" horn cap, both use the same.
Interior apointments and options (including console, buckets, tach and guages) were all the same between the Malibu and the SuperSport...
Once again, proper placement can be found in the assembly manual... Its a good $20 investment if you think you are going to take the car apart...
Besides the hood, thats all I can think of...

All sounds right on except don't pull the supersport emblem off the plastic piece above the glove box door. The Malibu is embossed beneath, but the supersport emblem uses two holes drilled in the malibu word to locate it, so pulling the supersport emblem off will reveal the malibu word with two holes in it. Think you would have to trun it over and carefully drill plastic studs out from the back to get it off without tearing something up anyway.

it also says Chevelle across the front grill instead of the SS.
National Parts Depot has all the emblems for sale relatively inexpensively.
You are gonna' pay a couple hundred bucks for all of em though.
