I am looking into buying a six speed overdrive and I was wondering if anybody installed it in their chevelle and if they liked it. D&D rebuilds the viper tranny to fit any early chevy, They also claim to handle up to 650 lbs torque.
Anyone have any suggestion thanks

I was told by D&D that a stock Camaro/Firebird trans is good for 750hp max! They rebuild THOSE trans to "Viper" specs, which is suppose to be good for 900hp max! With my engine/ car set up, they told me they would recommed a stock Viper trans. The shifter location is a few inches forward compard to the Camaro/Firebird trans. With this trans your shifter location is very close to the stock, letting you run a stock consol if you wish.

I have the engine and trans mounted in the frame. (which is on jack stands) Street & Performance has a guide on how to put this trans into a 70 Chevelle on there web site. www.hotrodlane.cc

I have their T56 Viper trans in my *cough* Mustang *cough*.

With 3.73 rear gears, in 6th, at 2000 RPM I'm at ~80MPH.

I believe Clint44 does. A stock LT1 T56 can take more abuse than most give it credit for especially if you do not drag race on slicks.

I installed a Rockland Standard T56 in my '67 Wagon with a hydraulic clutch kit fron ATS (www.t56kit.com). It's pretty slick.

Rockland also claims 750hp for their T56s, which are upgraded over LT1 specs with the 30-spline Viper output shaft, carbon fiber synchro rings, and a steel 3-4 shift fork. That seemed like a lot of trans for $2,200.

The ATS kit is cool- They used my '67 to prototype the A-body kit, so the crossmember is right on. The only downside is how much of the factory floorpan needs to be removed, but I wasn't worried about it. If I had a "matching numbers" SS 396 or something, I may have had more reservations. Since I have an original 283/PG wagon, I couldn't care less. The 383/T56 combo is well worth the new trans tunnel.

have you tested it on the track or punched it all, and if so how did it respond thanks I have a D&D T56 in my El Camino. I've hammered on it on the road course and the drag strip. Holding up fine so far. I really don't expect to have any problems with it.
