: Got my 66 Malibu Convertible back from painter! Pics
66Broke Apr 21st, 06, 12:24 PM I put a few new pics on my webshots (see signature) on the 3rd page there are a few of the new Marina Blue paint. I am very pleased with the paint job.
I am very pumped to get this project going again. 2.5 years in the making, I hope it doesn't take much more.
Next comes interior and engine (should go faster than all that body work).
Opinions on best wheel setup? I like the Nostalgic look, maybe some American Racing or similars would look good.
How do you guys like it?
Brian
Bill Pritchard Apr 21st, 06, 1:57 PM Lookin' good  Wheels are such a judgement call, hard to pick just one. Do whatever you like...it'll be better than the rollers that are on there now!!!
LKN BCK Apr 21st, 06, 3:55 PM I like it!!! Hopefully we can get hooked up sometime. Let me know when you are coming to Des Moines with it. Get it done and take it on the (Cruz To The Woods) in Webster City this fall... it is the best Older Car get together in Iowa.

My brother lives in Webster City, he too is a car guy, but sadly he is a Pontiac guy....
I have been to that show once, it is a great one.
I can try, beings it is in the fall I may have a chance.
Is that Saylorville Lake in the background of your picture? Or Lake Panorama maybe?
Brian
LKN BCK Apr 21st, 06, 8:21 PM Saylorville Lake...Lower Cherry Glen Boatramp during one of those Forest Fires out west a few years ago. It was real hazy for days around the Midwest that is why the color looks funny. It caused really cool the Sunsets by the lake.
I felt the pic turned out pretty cool, wish I would have had my digital camera at that time. I live in Saylor Twsp about a mile north of Des Moines/ I-80 off of 2nd Ave.

1966_L78 Apr 24th, 06, 12:23 PM lookin' good...
allengator Apr 25th, 06, 2:51 PM WOW! Looks great!
Care to $hare the paint details??
66Broke Apr 26th, 06, 3:38 PM I sent it to a paint shop about 7 miles from my house, his wife works w/ me and he is a really good body and paint man. He had it for 5 months but finally got it painted. He touched up some of my body work, even though I thought it was "close" I was wrong in a few spots.
I haven't received the bill from him yet but I'm holding my breath. He said it won't be bad (famous last words, right).
He used a Sherwin Williams system that I am not real familiar with, BC/CC system.

ChevysRus Apr 30th, 06, 11:45 PM You Des Moines guys ever get over to Porky's? I was visiting Des Moines last week and happened to get to Porky's on Wed, night. About 50 cars showed up, had a blast, but back home in California now.
Regards,
LKN BCK May 1st, 06, 11:25 AM Yes, as the weather gets nicer that place get packed every weekend. I am always amazed that every time I go there... cars I have never seen before show up. One time a big old farm boy showed up with 69 Yenko Camaro...unrestored cracked paint and all, I could not believe my eyes!
What brought you to our neck of the woods? Dan
66Broke May 3rd, 06, 10:11 PM Dan,
I heard there is a swap meet this weekend in DM, at the fairgrounds. Do you know if it is a good one? Thinking about going but about 75 miles away and with the price of gas.....is it worth checking out?

I've gone and have sold stuff there the last couple years.
You are not missing anything if you dont go.
There is never anything NOS period. Very few venders, Little to no Chevelle stuff, and if you do see anything Chevelle it is likley junk along with pretty much everything else.
If there was anything worth even looking at... some dam* Ebayer already got it to resale and that really ticks me off even though I have been guilty of that crime... only because I was there very early! I look for parts that I can use hopeing to get lucky but I think those Days are pretty much gone when it comes to the smaller swaps? I would like to find something I could use, and that really never happens. Again, thanks to Ebay!!!??? and the $ AMOUNTS some folks ask for their stuff- mostly junk.
Just to let folks know that my father and I sold some used stuff mostly from 57 Chevys that he parted out over the years back in his day(he is almost 80 years old now) we had an old guy in his 70s at spring swap asking about a seat adjuster chrome knob and I told him we had one but that it was not with us.
So when the fall swap came I had it in my pocket, the guy showed up from out of town and asked again (I had a feeling he would be there again) Pulled it out of my pocket and gave it to him no charge, he tried to pay and this knob was nearly perfect. I knew he was going to use it himself...I dont really know who felt better about the deal him or I? It felt good knowing he was going to use it and it was not going on Ebay. I made sure that guy didnt waste his time on that day!
I should start a thread asking what others think about swap meets and Ebay in their towns, and what kind of trouble it they believe it has caused us car guys trying to enjoy this car hobby?
Greenfeild Ia has a bigger swap mid summer with several hundred venders that can be interesting but again seems like the same story when it comes to Chevelle parts! Mostly Junk if any at all. I feel good used Chevelle parts are drying up in all of Iowa! JMO

I was thinking of going to CB06. Do you have any interest? I will be going alone otherwise and it would be nice to carpool it.
