The last time I drove the chevelle I noticed that the horn didn't work. Today I had a clicking sound coming from under the horn pad, it sounded like it was coming from the steering column, but the horn didn't work. A minute ago the horn started blowing by itself. I hit the horn pad and turned the steering wheel and it shut off. Does anybody have any idea what causes this?
TIA,

The horn also blows when you turn the wheel to the left. It made for an interesting ride home :)

Sarge, it sounds like the wire inside the wheel is pinched or rubbing. Thake the horn pad off and you may see what it is. I' put the wheel and pad on my Elky and can see how this might happen.

Thanks Dave,
I'll play with it and see what happens.

OK, started to take the steering wheel apart and found that the turn signal lever was loose and when it touched the column the horn blew. Pulled the steering wheel off, tightened the lever and put everything back together only to find that the horn still blows when the wheel is turned to the left.
Anybody have any ideas?

Sounds exactly like the problem I had with my 67. Horn blowing when steering wheel went past a certain point. Discovered that it was making contact with the screw holding the turn signal lever. The screw had a rounded top and apparently needed a flat top. The quick cure was a couple of pieces of electrical tape on the screw head. Has stayed fixed for a year now.
The wife thought it cute that she could track me where ever I was in the neighborhood. Neighbors had a different opinion!:hurray:
