I've got a set of SRP 18cc dome 496 pistons (actually its +.070 so its a 498) that I need to remove 4 or 5 cc from to get my SCR down to around 9.8:1. Does anyone know how many thousandths of material removal equals 4 or 5 cc's ? The dome is very irregular shaped (radius sides, intake valve relief, etc..) so its not a straight forward calculation. The piston part number is 212158.

I called SRP yesterday but they didn't have any guidelines for this particular piston so I guess I'm on my own.

Thanks

Jeff, Since the dome is a very irregular shape, like you mentioned, it is virtually impossible to calculate the amount of material to mill off to arrive at 4 to 5 cc reduction. The only way that I can think of to accomplish this is to make a plaster mold of the dome, then fill in material and measure the resulting dome volume until you arrive at your target. It will be a lot of tedious work, but I sure can't think of any other way to accurately determine the amount to be removed.
