I'm looking for internet pics of blown '70 Chevelles using a factory 1" cowl hood. I'm in the process of marking my steel hood for cutting and would like to validate what I think needs to be removed. I've been searching and have only turned up one car so far but the image/anlge isn't that clear.
If anyone has access to or could point me to a link that shows what I'm looking for, I'd be really grateful. Thanks in advance folks.

Don't have pix, but saw one at a car show this fall that didn't have just a big hole....the hole traced the outline of the blower. It was wild.

I can share how I cut my hood on my 60. For me, it was the back of the scoop that caused most of the clearance problems. I measured and measured and measured again. I cut my hole with 1" of clearance all the way around. Then when I first mounted the hood and tried to open it, the rear of the scoop needed more clearance. So it was cut a little more, test fit again and cut a little more.
As for the hood itself, when you cut the center X brace out, you're hood's going to sag like 85 year old....well, you get, right?
To re-strengthen the hood, I mig welded 1/8" x 3/4" flat stock around the opening then braced it with the same sized angle iron all the way around, tying it into the original bracing. It's very strong now. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=160668&make_type_query=make%3DChevrolet&model_brand_query=model%3DChevelle&tree=Chevrolet%20Chevelle

Hey thnx for the pics and the tip Jimmy. It looks like hardly any of the supporting frame structure will get cut into...so that's good. I'm letting a body shop look it over on Friday morning. If they give it the green light, hopefully my measurements were good. (fingers crossed)

I know this probably won't help much, since I am not using a 1" cowl hood, and I'm not using carb's (injected) but a 4" cowl on an injected setup looks BADASS! with only about 1/2 way out in the front. Just click the link below and you should see a couple with the hood on. Also go to current projects and click on the 'Racing' link, there's a good sideshot of the car with the hood on.

The body pros checked out the steel hood and are not crazy about cutting into it. As it turns out, the forward most area of the cut WOULD weaken the support structure and would be more trouble than it's worth to strengthen it again. If the hood were unpainted, it would be a different story.
Soooo, I'm in the hunt for a new cowl hood. The question is which manufacturer and what size cowl? 1", 2", or 3" cowl? Any suggestions?
