In a junkyard recently I came across a 71 Chevelle wagon with a two-way tailgate. Is this a rare item?

My dad used to have a '72 Chevelle (concours)wagon. We drove all over the country in it. It definitely had a two way tailgate. It would swing open like a door, or flip down like a tailgate. I'm sure he did not pay extra for that, so it was probably a standard feature.

NOPE. Not rare at all. if it's in rust free condition its still worth $150-$200 some one pay more though. it is very heavy and woud cost about $150-$200 to ship it 100 feet.
i think in 69 it was an option. in 70 it was pretty common, in 71 and 72 i dont think you could even get a single action tailgate. if so, i believe it was only available in the Nomad models. all my wagons have dual action gate except my 69 nomad. it has manual single action gate. the rest are either power or manual dual actions. if you can get it cheep and it is rust free, get it and advertise it. there are people looking for that/ shipping just sucks. and you will not be able to just carry it out of the junk yard. if it has hinges, glass and all the power stuff it weighs over 200 pounds.

I couldn't repair my brakes, so I made my horn louder. :D Honk if you love peace and quiet.
Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it.
