: 69 malibu wheel well trim optional?
Hello all
Got a friend that is restoring a 69 malibu and is unsure whether the wheel well trim was optional or standard. I know that some of the 70 malibu's didn't come with it, but I'm not sure about the 69's. For what it's worth the 1/4 were severely rotted and mudded and the fenders were no help as far as locating trim screw holes. So what will it be guys, standard or optional on a 69 malibu?

I think they were included in the SS396 option package ONLY. Someone else can confirm for sure.

jodysss396 May 1st, 02, 11:07 PM I think my 69 SS came without them from the factory. I have pictures of the car from the original owner and it was without them. I had to drill the holes for mine when I installed them.

Thanks guys
Anyone have any info in their original literature?
Hey Josh this is for Tom Rightler's 69 that is gonna be out of the body shop in about a month. I think he is just going to leave it off for now and then add it later if it's really supposed to be there.

I have a '69 dealer brochure. The photos in it show that the only model/option package other than the ones equipped with the SS396 option to get wheel well moldings was the Concours 4 dr hardtop. No Malibus had them. Don't know about wagons or El Caminos. In a book that has a list of options for a '69, wheel well moldings weren't there.

FIG,
Can't help you with original literature on the Chevelle but I do have info from the el Camino literature. I've posted them for review. I also posted a photo of my 69 Malibu taken in 69. Everything is "as delivered" except for the SS grille emblem. I had a "semi-clone" back then! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks guys!
I will let him know that the consensus seems to be no trim except for the SS cars!

waynew@socal.rr.com May 3rd, 02, 12:07 AM I have an original Magazine ad for a 69 SS396
titled -
"There's a fine line between pure sport and pure luxury. It's called Chevelle."
The Chevelle pictured has the sport rims but no trim rings..for what it's worth.
I could scan the ad and send it if you'd like.

mr409 May 3rd, 02, 7:45 AM My '69 Malibu has them and I believe it to be correct. Only 2 lady owners prior to me. The car was virgin!
I don't know if they were standard for a certain model but im sure they could be a dealer add on at best.
