: resistor for oil pressure sending unit?

I have headers on my '69, and it is going to be a real challenge to mount the factory type oil pressure sending unit. I have factory gauges that I want to read correctly, or at least in the vicinity of correct.

The sending unit I have in there now..I dont believe it is correct for the 69 gauge application...as soon as I turn my key to 'on', i can see my oil pressure reading going all the way HIGH (engine not running!).

wondering if there is a resistor, or resistors that I can install in line that would put my gauge back within range. I really dont want to have to pull the sending unit and replace with something else..and i seriously doubt whether the stocker is going to fit with the headers on my car.

my car has a modified oil pump/spring..so it may never read "normal", but I would at least like it to be in the ballpark and consistent, so I know when to worry!

Sounds like the sender you have now is a idiot light sender. It won't work with a gauge at all, it is either open or grounded (grounded, car not running, gauge pegged to "H". Open, car running, gauge pegged to "L". you need the proper sending unit first, heres one,

It will fit, you may need some pipe fittings, straight and 90 deg, 1/4 NPT I think, which you can get at any better hardware stores. Mock it up and install so it fits, dissemble and use some pipe sealant and reassemble. For a resister, see where the gauge is without one first, if you need one it will be trial and error. You can also try a potentiometer "pot" which is a adjustable resister with a dial. http://www.digikey.com has a large selection of resisters and potentiometers. Maybe someone else will chime in on what ohms range you would need for this to work.

ok, thanks for the help (AGAIN!)..I have the larger type sending unit like Year One shows..I will hang onto it and give it a shot in place of the one I have now.

The large sending unit is correct, there is a picture of it in the assembly manual. I also have this problem and i suspect it is the resister element shorting or broken.
I used the sending unit with headers and had a problem with the stock angle fitting. ground up has the block fitting for shp set at a increased angle from standard just enough to clear the header. I plan to check out the gauge in more detail this weekend i'll let you know if i can get it to work,

It turns out the new sending unit i had installed was bad, i replaced it and it works great.

glad to hear that the block from GU will eliminate my header clearance issue..i really want to get under the car ONCE more and get it fixed..the pegged out oil pressure reading is starting to bug me, and its the only thing on my cluster that doesnt work correctly right now.
