I now know I should have removed the tank first, well I didn't. What is a safe way to do this now. The body is in the garage, tank 3/4 full, and to make things worse...my water heater is in the garage. So I will TURN OFF the pilot light and gas BEFORE siphoning gas and use my exhaust fans all day to remove fumes after draining tank. All the posts I read refer to taking it off first, well mines 30" up in the air now, should I just use the same procedures?
Thanks.

I didn't take my gas tank off untill after my body was off the frame. might be easier with two people. one to take the brackets off and one to hold the tank up. after i took the tank off i emptied the remaining gas out. I did this all by myself with no problems. I don't know if thats how you are supposed to do it but it worked out fine. this is only the second tank I have taken out. the other was out of a pickup .

Turn off any flame. Siphon as much as you can, get a pal to help, and take it out. Ventilate well the whole time. You'll be fine.
gas can be dangerous but you know the cautions to take. I think you'll be fine

How many gallons is a full tank? I am thinking we are talking 15-20 gallons here. Gas weighs 7 pounds per gallon so that is quite a bit of weight. Eigher pump or siphon out the gas and remember you need to be careful down wind where the fumes are. Where are you going to store the gas and the tank?

I've got 5 gallon gas jugs for the gas. The tank will be washed out, cleaned/painted, and stored in a shed until ready to put back on...
