I am curious of opinions especially among pro-restorers on having a body dipped and e-coated. I know most are against dipping and prefer media blasting, but with the e-coating it seems many of the negative issues are resolved. With media blasting I always hear you can never get all the stuff out of the car. Here's a link to the site detailing the process. http://www.ecoatking.com/

Sounds like a bad idea to me. E-coat is great on brand new metal, properly prepared, in a controled setting, but on old, seasoned metal (I assume your car is 30 years old or older), a much better option would be acid etch primer, instead of e-coat. Besides, e-coat certainly doesn't resolve the most nagging problem of the chemical dip. That is, the almost never ending weeping out of the chemicals from joints and seams.
Here's another option you might try. Soda blasting is much easier to clean up than media and while it doesn't remove any rust, it does a good job of removing old fillers and paint.

I had my body done by Carponents. I think its absolutely the best way to prepare a body. There is no constant weaping of chemicals. All the old primer, filler, bondo, seam sealer, everything is removed from the car. After the body is dipped in the ecoating primer, it is baked. Look for yourself. It looks like I called the dealership and ordered a new shell. Its fantastic. The price is very reasonable as well.

I don't under stand how e-coating can be bad. I had my stuff done by ecoatking and the stuff looked as though it was dipped in the fountian of youth. No weeping of chemicals, the parts are cleaned and nuetralized before they are primed. If you have the means of doing it, I would strongly suggest it.

I am curious as to the cost, location, and backlog time period to get it in. Do they have a web site with info?
I have not found many places in Ohio to do this, but the ones that do, have a backlog of several months and want $1,000 for the body shell, and $75-95 each for fenders, hood, trunk etc.
Sand/media blasting I am getting quotes of around $500 for all.
