Saw an ad in HOT Rod Mag for Morrison Max G chassis. Seems like a great way to go....did a search and found nothing. Anyone use a Max G chassis or know about them? THANKS.

The overall chassis is good but I feel there are too many compromises in the rear suspension department for ease of packaging... and from what I understand the compromises is one of the reasons their suspension designer left. However you could always order it with no rear suspension provisions and bulid your own.

They're also quite expensive... think 5 figures. A friend quoted one and it was around $11K, and that didn't include much more than the rear end housing and control arms. It's also not Chevelle-specific and you will have to do extensive floorpan mods to fit it. It is not a bolt-in frame, although you can provide Morrison with custom bending numbers and they can get it close. You'll still have to slice and dice the floor though to clear all the center bracing at the very least.

You may also want to look into the Schwartz frame:

http://www.schwartzperformance.com/products.htm

This chassis claims to be a bolt-in although I haven't seen any completed yet. I'm not a big fan of the 4-link rear setup but the price is much better than the Morrison frame. I also don't like the seemingly flimsy front section that appears to be very weak in bending (nothing a motor plate couldn't take care of by adding another shear plane.) I also see potential issues with steering shaft routing. I'm very interested in that frame but I haven't been able to get the actual designed-in suspension parameters out of them yet to make an informed decision, and I really want to see one mocked-up first to see body clearance, header clearance, steering shaft clearance, etc.

Does anyone know what Wayne Due charges to modify the factory frame?

Troy, thanks for that link. That looks nice. Do you think that frame would be good for drag racing too?? I wonder how much ground clearence those fram rail cross braces would give you on a Chevelle with a stock suspension height. I would need atleast 8 inches to be NHRA legal.

Regarding the Schwartz chassis, there is a company called Pathfinder Chassis that may be the "OEM" for Schwartz. The two companies are only 100 miles apart: http://www.pathfinderchassis.com/streetrods.html

Many pictures of this frame for review.

Very true. I found the Pathfinder chassis well over a year ago; Jeff Schwartz says his chassis is not the same but it is a new design that he is marketing and selling. He did not say who makes them though, but he said he only markets and sells them. Based on apperances I'm guessing that Pathfinder tweaked their design, still builds them, and Jeff is selling them.

There are a couple cars being built right now with this chassis and I want to see the finished product in terms of fitment issues (headers, exhaust to ground under the center bracing, steering shaft, etc.)

I know Wayne has built at least one turnkey A-body frame with C4 front & rear suspension, for a customer's 70 Chevelle. Photos of the build were on their website.

Clint any idea on the price? I just don't see springing for an aftermarket frame and running a converging 4 link rear.

As it was a one-off project,I think Wayne charged $10K for the whole set-up.

On a somewhat unrelated note, exactly what's the purpose of those not so round rotors in the Pathfinder frame pictures?????

Its a new Wilwood design, no real advantage that I can tell. Look cool with the drilled holes though.

The scalloped rotors are a hot item around here for the roundy round guys, they save a bit of rotational mass so they're quicker to brake and accelerate off the corners. If you can save a little bit of weight people will buy; hell, guys out here shell out over $1000 for titanium bolt kits to save a mere 1 pound on their sprint cars.

Here's a link to the "wavy" rotors from The Brake Man: http://www.thebrakeman.com/street_rotors

Also notice the Hurricane STEEL rotors. There's been a lot of talk from the Corvette guys about these. Bolt-ons for the upcoming C-5 spindle Chevelle conversion, too.

The Schwartz chassis is a great step forward and the first A-Body alternative I know of. There's an opportunity for the manufacturer to evolve that rear suspension. And from the looks of their other projects, they certainly CAN do it.

Skier_Bob- If you want, I can get you in touch with a shop that is currently building one of these cars right now. They would definitely be able to give you the ins and outs of the project as good as anybody.

I know that the tri 4-bar suspension is a hot topic on the forums these days, but here is a video of our 55 that uses our IFS front and tri 4-bar rear http://www.artmorrison.com/video/index.php?video=seg3.wmv This car was tested with BFG KD's (245/45-17 front and 275/40-18) rears. We will be testing our '60 Vette project in April that also features this same rear suspension, but with C5 front.

For those who are building a track-day car or just don't like the tri 4-bar, we have just come out with a 3-link with adjustable watts link.

Yes, there are floor mods, and it isn't a job for an inexperienced, first time builder, but this is our particular answer to increasing the performance and handling for these cars. What's cool about this industry is there are a lot of options for us car guys out there....

I hope this answered your questions, but if not, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail. Also, let me know if you want to talk to somebody that's building a Chevelle with one of our MaxG frames. I think there is also a guy that hangs out on either PT.com or LatG.net that is building one as well.

wow, that's a badarse looking setup right there with the watts linkage!

Adding a 3-link to that thing fixed my only gripe about it.

Now the bigger problem... finding the money for one. :p

No body mods required. Stronger, less torsional flex than tubular.
Looks like suppose to be under the car.
