: Chrysler by Maserati?

Today at lunch I saw a car I'd never seen before. At first it looked like a Chrysler LeBaron convertible with an old T-bird hardtop fitted onto it. When I got behind it the car was a Chysler (S?) TC and on the right side of the tailgate said "by MASERATI".

Can somebody tell me about this car? It had two tailpipes but was pale yellow and otherwise not impressive. How rare is this?

there are two of them around here. Don't think they are common, but not ultra rare. they were built during the recover phase of mopar, basically a K car with an option package. I think they were powered with Chrysler's engines, but I may be wrong on that.

Wow, I'd never seen one. Kinda unusual looking, but not a bad car at all. They cost about the same as a Chevelle, so they must be pretty rare, or at least really hard to get parts for. Thanks.

I've had two of them, one exactly like the pic above, the other maroon/maroon (father in law was original owner). 7300 made over a three year period. For automatics, they had a 2.2l turboII Chrysler motor for '89 (which both of mine were), and the mitshubishi 3.0l NA V6 for 90-91. Five speed cars had a 2.2l turbo with a Maserati DOHC head. The 5 speed cars are very collectable, while the others are so-so. They were produced by Maserati in italy. The hardtop comes off, with a manual soft top stowed beneath a tanau cover. Just about everything was standard equipment, like AC, PS, ABS, leather, stainless steel exhaust. They listed at $35k, and didn't sell until Chrysler did heavy discounts, brining them down to the mid $20k. The concept was nice, but took too long to bring to market, at which point the design wasn't fresh, and eventually looked like "a leather covered LeBaron" (later Lebarons shared alot of the same lines). Competed with the Cadillac Allante, which was a ferrari built body with caddy drivetrain.

I just got rid of mine last December, and was glad to see them go. K-car all the way. If it were v-8 rwd, I probably would still have them.

I think the Caddy was a pininafarina built body.
