So I got under the car last night to hunt for an oil leak that has been getting worse and worse...

Oil pan is basically clean, a few oil pan bolts next to the starter have drips on them, and some off the bottom of the bellhousing. Mostly off the starter (I was thinking intake leaking?)...

Valve cover gaskets are fine...

Back of pan (rear mail seal) is clean, as well as the back of the flywheel. Looking at small drops on the floor, the main leak is dripping off the starter motor...

So I finally notice while UNDER the car, I can see the o-ring on the dipstick, and there is some oil around there...

I need some tips/hints on how to install the dipstick, and seal it up, WHILE IN THE CAR... I plan to pull the dipstick out, check/replace the o-ring and drop/tap it back in...

The dipstick is a "stock" (GM or repro) tube (NOT chrome), and it has worked fine for 10+ years (3+ years on the latest build before the leak started)...

Basically looking for tips/tricks to get it to seal (grease/silicone sealer, smaller o-ring, etc)...

Thanks...

Wow! I'm assuming the oil pressure pushed the o-ring up the dipstick? The only thing I can think of is maybe the pcv is clogged and creating alot of pressure. Good luck and post back with your findings, you got me curious now.

Thanks... I always keep this in good tune, and recently replaced the PCV valve, BUT I switched to a Billet-style PCV (Billet Specialties)... Maybe somethings clogged in that... The oil leak started sometime after I installed that one (but I do have the large 1" factory hose from valve cover to air cleaner that should have releive quite a bit of pressure)...

Help the o-ring out a little with a little silicone sealer to help it seal in the oil pan.
