Hi, I just finished stripping my car down to metal, and it's going to be awhile before I can put a decent paint job on it. My question is, what type of primer can I put on it for now, till I can finish it? I still have some bodywork to do, but I wanted to put something on it to keep it from rusting. It will probably be in primer for some time, and will be driven occasionally.

Epoxy Primer. I like to use PPG.

Before you put on that expoy primer apply a good coat of etching primer like PPG dx1791. The etching primer has much better corrosion fighting properties then expy primer and along with better adhesion as well. Also the expoy is not meant to be applied directly over bare metal.

If you're going to go the PPG route, check out their UniPrime DTM. It's a urethane primer that's formulated to go on a sanded metal surface (Direct To Metal). It's also like an epoxy primer in that you can leave it without topcoating for a long time. It is a little pricey for a primer though.

Thanks for the info!!! I was going to go with PPG epoxy primer, but I wasn't sure about spraying it directly on the bare metal.
