Just a quick question for my own curiousity..Why does a person use sealers over finished primer and before the basecoat?
Does it really seal off the underlayment or is it to make a uniform color on which to paint to???

Both, I also believe it helps with adhesion. Mike

helps with adhesion and covers up whatever filler you have, to help prevent it from shrinking or showing up in the future

IMO, You should always use sealer. Theres nothing wrong by using it so that nothing can bleed through to your new paint.

Sealer wont stop shrinking. If you pile on the primer and sand a few hrs later and then apply a sealer that contains even MORE SOLVENT, it wont stop shrinking.
