How much wider does converting from drum to disc make the spacing between the front wheels? I just put on CPP Disc front brakes and now I have slight rubbing of the passenger's front tire when I make a left hand turn. It is rubbing against the front of the fender lip bottom at the front of the wheel opening. I have B. F. Goodrich Radial T/A P225/70R15s on the front. Never had this before the conversion.

I installed a Right Stuff kit on my 65 this winter and it ended up about 3/16" wider per side. Of course they told me it would not change at all :angry:
guess I talked to the wrong guy!

225/70R15's is pretty narrow... I have 255's in the front and some have wider...

yes discs will add a slight amount.

on my wife's '67 Firebird, i had to step down one size on the front tires after the swap.

went from 225/60-15 on 8" wheel to a 215/60-15

no rub at all now.

Thanks for the comments. The rub is very slight just as the tire is moving left, right at the bottom of the fender. Think I will get out the grinder and see about taking just a slight amount off at that point. The touch is so slight there is no mark on the tire, but as you well know, it makes quite a noise in the car. Also found the passenger side is ~ 1/2' lower than the drivers side. Any way someone knows how to easily raise one side ~1/2"?:confused:

I measured a 69-72 A-body disc setup versus a 66 Chevelle drum setup and calculated right about 1/2" wider (each side) for the disc setup...

I measured two spots:
1) from the "wheel" mounting surface out to the tip of the spindle(dust cap off).
2) from the wheel mounting surface to the edge of the upper control arm...

That is about what I measured when I finally got out the old spindles last night and measured the from the center of the spindle mounting bolts opening on the control arms to the base of the rim mounting studs. That is just enough to cause the slight rub I have. I am still looking on how to EASILY raise the front passenger side of the body (fender) up ~1/2". That would give the little extra space I need.

I wouldn't just add spacers to the body without checking to see if the front spring installation isn't causing your problem. When I installed new springs, I had to trim about an inch off the bottom coil to get it to sit in the perch the way it should ( top and bottom ).
