Does anyone know who sells the led tailight conversion kit that will fit in the 69 Chevelle? They are Supposed to be much brighter and illuminate much faster than conventional 12volt bulbs.

Try a search on the LED topic, as it has been discussed here before. There are apparently a variety of LED retro fit products, with some being better than others. And, you will probably need an electronic turn signal flasher because the load of the LED lamp will not be enough to turn on the flasher. Same might go for the 4-way flasher, too.

Autozone has direct plug-ins, no "conversion" necessary. They do light up quicker - but not much brighter.

PM sent "Big Mike"!

Trust me on this one, the LED "bulb" replacements won't do cr*p on a '69 - the taillight area is just too big.

My daily driver is a 2000 Caddy Deville and it has the LED tailights and they are great, they light up super bright in an instant. I know many of the newer cars have them now and the theory behind them is to get the message ASAP to the brain of the the sleepy, hungover, coffee drinking, cigarette smoking, make-up applying, late for work, cell phone yacking front end smashed dingle-berry driver behind me so he/she wont crush my back end. Cost is always a concern but try to find the correct mint parts to rebuild your 69 SS rear trunk area. That can be high dollar costs and frustration.

I run them on my 69 also. They are an improvment but a very slight one at best.

John,

Do you have those made for a '70? Need donor rear lenses?

Nothing for '70 yet.
I need to get hold of the complete assembly - lens, housing/bucket, etc,. to mock one up. No-one in my club has a "spare" out of the bumper. Condition of these parts really doesn't matter, as long as they're whole and a complete assembly.

Well, I'll volunteer a lens if someone else has a bucket/housing.
