How would this work in my '72 Chevelle. I'v done my reading on here and know I probably couldn't make U turns, but they are illigal alot of intersectios in Tampa anyway, so I don't really care. What would I have to do to put this into my Chevelle? Would I need new fittings or what?

Go to www.corvettefaq.com look under Steering and click on "his Excellent articles". Then click on A & F-car Steering Papers. Click on the first paper "A&F-Car Fast Ratio Steering Gear Upgrade - 7 pages (Rev 24JN05)".
It answers all the questions on installing a later model fast ratio steering gear into your early Chevelle.
Good luck,

It should bolt right up.GM didn't start using metric P/S fittings on Camaro's till the early 80's.If you can get the hoses and the pump with it,the swap will be that much easier.

easy swap...if i remember right, you'll use your pitman arm.
if you do go with the '80-'81 box, get the line, and the valve from the back of the donor car's P/S pump looks like a big "nut" 1" wrench.
you can also use the F-bod front sway bar too - T/A has a bigger bar than Z28 - 1 1/4" VS 1 1/8"

The other thing you can do to make this work even better...
First use your Chevelle pitman arm rather than the Camaro arm. This will give you the same location for the center link and side to side movement for a given angle.
Next, presuming you have power steering now, use the end cap from the Chevelle PS gearbox on the Camaro box. This will change the steering stop for left hand turns to match what you had. You will note that the Chevelle cap is thinner than the Camaro cap.
Finally, and this is the advanced part, remove the steering rack travel limitting ring from up inside the Camaro PS gearbox. This will require you to remove the rack and the pinion and play around with the 20 little balls inside. Note that there are actually 10 big balls and 10 small balls and the difference between big and small is around 0.001" or less. They have to be put back in alternating order or your steering can hang up. This is why this part is "advanced".
Do those three changes to the Camaro box and it will have a turning radius equal to the Chevelle application. Been there, done that myself.
