: coil spring spacer
Family68 Apr 14th, 06, 5:37 PM I would like to raise the rear of my car about an 1.5". I replaced the coils springs and shocks all the way around and now the front sits higher than the rear. I like the way it sits in the front, but the rear is to low. I read an old post about coil spring spacers instead of air shocks. Anyone have any recomendations on accomplishing this safely?
Family68 Apr 22nd, 06, 2:14 AM Has no one ever done this? I know that most are dropping their cars, but I am trying to get the rear up a little. Does anyone know of any kind of spacer for the rear?
thunderstruck507 Apr 22nd, 06, 5:18 AM I made some from 3/4" pipe with a flat piece and smaller pipe welded on top to fit inside the spring
you can prolly buy them too
you will need longer shocks
71 RAT Apr 22nd, 06, 9:18 AM I think Mr. Gasket makes a deal like ,thunderstruck507 is speaking of. You can cut the tubing to get your disired ride height. I used that back in the early 80's. Check out the circle track racing vendors, there are a few different items to raise the ride height.
This is just my 2 cents. I ran jacked up Chevelles for many years. I lowered my curent Chevelle the stock ride height (probably slightly lower) The ride, handling and overall driveability was unbeliveable! Just my opinion, raise it as little as posible to get your look. Have fun with your ride!
Bob West Apr 22nd, 06, 9:53 AM Air Lift, air bags, will get you the 1.5-2" lift you need, they install inside your coil springs, can be inflated equally or seperately, less than 70.00 at Summit or Jegs.
Family68 Apr 22nd, 06, 10:19 AM Thanks guys, I found some on ebay last night. A new item that a guy is selling. They sit below the coil spring on the perch. I just want to try and level the car out so I don't want to go to high. I should really post some pics of the progress of the car. Thanks Again!!
72silverchevelle Apr 22nd, 06, 4:42 PM I got some adjusters from pep boys a while ago. You keep adjusting it untill you have the height you want. cost me 20 bucks.
Randall B. Apr 23rd, 06, 12:27 AM I realize that I am drifting off your question a bit, I had 2 inch over stock coil springs made for the rear of my 69 and it sits great!! I paid $145.00 from Coil Spring Specialties in Saint Mary KS. www.coilspring.com
wudju2 Aug 11th, 10, 11:21 PM I am also looking to add 1.5 inches to the rear height and I am not finding what I need.. I am looking to add something below on the perch.. can someone direct me to someone who sells these?
FLASHED Aug 12th, 10, 12:29 AM I need some also.
dogsridewith Aug 12th, 10, 10:50 AM The rubber (or whatever elastomer) spacers like what are stock at one end of the rear coils are sometimes sold in sets of 6 or ten. This made me wonder if they can be doubled up (stacked) to gain a little ride height.
(Air bags and between-coil clamps and rubbers will increase rate. Does anyone make a mechanical adjustable spring base that is like a little gearbox with a place to insert a quarter inch ratchet or something to make adjustments?)
robo3 Aug 12th, 10, 10:48 PM get spacers for jeep tj coils! they make them from 3/4 to 3in. ask me how i know! i put them up on top though.
dogsridewith Aug 13th, 10, 9:50 AM Any particular year(s) of jeep tj?
tristatechevelle Oct 26th, 10, 5:27 PM Unreal, Another post that I was just going to ask and found this, Lol. Was going to ask about air bags and looks to me the way to go. I need about another inch of lift, I like the rake look and besides that when we go to shows I have a cooler, tent, chairs, ect ect. and it loads down these would work great.
Ernie Pezz Dec 15th, 10, 4:04 PM Try these for your raising the rear of your car.... Inexpensive, and they work great!!!

thunderstruck507 Dec 15th, 10, 4:11 PM those are basically what I was talking about that I made, except they cost me nothing and bolt to the perches on the rear end
Bud Crayne Dec 15th, 10, 4:40 PM Jacking your car up front & rear, w/front just a "touch" higher then rear, to emulate the drag teams of the early & mid-60s was practically mandatory, peaking during the 64-68 muscle years.
Referenced now as the "Gasser stance".
Chicks ignored the cats sittin' way down there @ stock height. ;)
