: 8 point bar install / rear seat?

I am going to haul the car in for the 8 point bar install early next week. It's a Morrison kit. In prep for the install I have removed rear package tray, rear seat, front seats and all carpet. Here's me wondering if the main hoop and cross bar is going to keep me from being able to re- install the rear seat? That would not be good, as the intention is to keep the rear seat using the "seat saver" rear bars that drop through the package tray. Wondering if I should just put the rear seat back in the car and hope that they dont burn it up! Any one ever remove the rear seat after a 8 point bar has been installed?

include the rear seat with the car, just unbolt it and hang it in place. They will need it for placement of the main hoop.

I can remove my rear seat with a diagonal brace in the car, takes some serious work, but i've done it twice.

Ak69, I Have A 10 Point Cage In My Car With A Full Interior. The Front Of The Rear Seat Bottom Just Barely Touches The Main Hoop In The Corners. I Also Have The Bars That Go Through The Package Tray. Mine Is A S&w Kit. Go For It. Just Let Them Know Your Intentions Before They Install It To Allow Room For It.

Exactly. Mine was done specifically with that in mind so they knew where to put the bars.

The seat bottom will fit no problem. It can be difficult to get in and out if that is your intention. Keep in mind the main hoop placement in regards to the rear window cranks. Mine is a 69 and I don't roll the rear windows down, which is good, because it is a chore.

Thanks guys! Sounds like its doable for sure. I will haul the car to them with the upper and lower back seat, as well as a front bucket. Have a very good shop lined up for the install, been waiting my turn all winter!

I have no intentions of ever trying to climb into the back seat, it's been years since the wife and I have entertained the thought of making use of it! :)

Going to be very busy next time home as I will have only a few days to screw the car back together, install engine and trans, shake down time and then off to the track for season opener on May 14.

Rotating assembly in for balance, then ready for assembly. Went roller with the rat, new pistons and rods to get the compression right. Fresh valves in the 049's, and new 8" converter. Hoping to dead hook with the suspension upgrades and launch wheels up into the 10 second zone!

Nice thing about the guy doing the bar install............same guy that IHRA certifies for Alaska. Should have no problem passsing tech!

This will be a done deal for the Malibu, no plans for trying to go quicker. It runs what it runs. Time to stop working on this car and focus on working on the driver!

New project in the garage, and the Malibu is a little upset.................69 tube chasis Cram-air-o. Current NHRA certs for 7.50 and slower. Might end up putting a ball hitch on the Malibu and using it as a tow rig. Maybe all the folks that say the BSE build is a tow truck motor are right after all! :)

Craig,
We need an update on how it's going. Pictures would be great. Time is getting short.

Bill,

Seems that the more planning and scheduling involved, the more room for delay. Still stuck at work, should have been home a few days ago. Engine is done, waiting for me to haul to the house. Car still has no bar, the shop keeps pushing the install date. Currently scheduled to go for install on 5/8. Says he will have the car for several days to complete. If I get the car back to the house on Thursday, two day thrash to get it togther for opening day on the 14th. The way my luck is running..........if it all comes together it will rain! No big shakes, opening day big fun but the track needs fresh rubber and prep, still a little cool around here as well. Looking forward to the new launch and engine combo, just have to go with the flow!!!!!

Here's me saying that I will post some wheels up pics when it does happen, soon I hope!!!!

Ready to catch some fish???? King season opens Memorial day week end!!!! :)
