: HRpartsNstuff Rear Sway Bar
JodysTransmissions Apr 13th, 06, 11:57 PM Is anyone using their rear sway bar? Here is their web page: http://www.hrpartsandstuff.com/
Click on "products", under Chassis/Suspension Stuff click on "Rear Sway Bar".
I know a guy that has this sway bar on his GTO. He said it is great for hard launches but, I was wondering about cornering and handling?
Thanks

MJRIBEIRO Apr 21st, 06, 8:54 AM Jody - IMO - some of their tests are not scientific, but the one at the track seems to be! Their explanation of what's happening and how the bar fixes that seems reasonable enough. How much is it? Do you have a bender at the shop? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to make.
Mark SC&C Apr 21st, 06, 1:46 PM The overall configuration of their bar is a good one. Much better than factory. BUT...keep in mind that this is a *drag race* sway bar. That means lots of rate to make the car launch flat. You "can" use it on the street but it will almost certainly induce a lot of oversteer (make the rear of the car loose) if you try to go around corners fast. That is not to say there`s anything wrong with the bar, just that different parts are best suited for different applications. Mark SC&C
JodysTransmissions Apr 21st, 06, 8:46 PM Mark,
I guess any of your three front suspension packages and this rear bar would be a clash on complimenting each other?
Bomber '67 Apr 21st, 06, 11:07 PM I do have the HR bar, but it is a newer addition without the benefit of even a handful of passes for evaluation. ...and while my engine is apart NO testing! I thought it was nicely made and engineered.
As for cornering on the street, with my bicycle tires out front there is no speed cornering!

Bill,
I did a search and came up with only two posts on this topic. I know this rear bar works well with straight launches, my buddy removed his right air bag. He said it was that good and he didn't need the bag anymore. I had hopes of guys as yourself would comment on the hard cornering as Mark did.

It might be a little tough to bend, thick walled, small diameter, moly tubing. It does a great job of leveling the launch,my car was twisting pretty bad at the end of last year, still having trouble getting mine off the line, its level though. I think it might just be a good set of stiff sidewall slicks away from doing so. I'm thinking I screwed up buying regular bias slicks, my car hits the tire too hard now. I think it would be too stiff for road racing if thats what you're thinking of using it for, not much give while cornering. The price is on the website, just a shade under 500.00.

Bob, Yes, I was thinking more on the lines of some road racing.
