Could someone tell me where I can find the part number for my HEI distributor cap. The engine is a 396 and I am assuming that HEI wasn't original to the engine, and I didn't add this part to the car. Thanks for your help

Just tell the auto parts store you need a hei dist. cap for any mid 70's chevy v8. All the gm v8's that had the HEI ignition from 74 on up through the 80's used the same cap.Just make sure you get one with the brass contacts.Tony

Take a look at the online car parts sites (Autozone, Checker, NAPA) and see what they have to offer. I usually look for HEI parts for a 1975 model and it gets me there OK.
