: Fixing hazy paint?

About 2 years ago I painted my El Camino with Dupont Chromabase/Chromaclear (black). Before I started on this car I had never seen an automotive paint gun, much less used one.

I followed the directions on sanding and buffing that the paint store gave me... and the paint is hazy - swirl marks all over the place, and generally never had any sort of deep color like I would prefer.

Now, the car is not a show car, it's a daily driver, but if I can fix this I would like to.

On the Dupont ChromaSystem paints, after 2 years can I still wetsand/buff out the clear, or has it become too hard and I need to strip and repaint?

I did paint the car in my garage, and any repaint would be in the same garage if it comes down to that.

If I can still re-buff, how should I go about it? The steps I got from the paint shop don't seem to have worked too well for me.

Thanks!
Derek

As long as you have enough clearcoat left, you can buff all you want.

The haze/swirl marks may be from using compound that is too aggressive or incorrect polishing pads.

At this stage, I would recommend you use a product such as 3-M Finesse-it with a white buffing pad followed by a glaze using a clean foam pad. 3-M makes a good glaze that is gray/black that works well, but I can't remember the product name. CRS ya know.

After glazing, I prefer using one of the "wet look" polishes. These can be applied with a machine waxer or by hand.

Vettfella said it all. just a few addendum.
2 years is no problem it will just be harder to buff out. use a foam cutting pad and Finesse it two compound and polish small
areas at a time .The hazing is incomplete buffing.
After the car is compounded then use a foam waffle pad and glaze few drops per sq ft. to get the depth.
ONLY then can you use a swirl remover and good wax ( non cleaning) either by hand or waxing machine.

If you want to make a drive down to Granbury, I'll be more than happy to show you how. I have the stuff to show you how to do it. 1500 grit wet sanding if there's still some orange peel and then some 3M Finesse-It with a buffer. Final step is a hand glaze.
