What was the option for the tailgate trim (above and below the backup lights) on 70 El Caminos? And was the body color in this area always black on SS models? woodgrain on custom El Caminos? Any info would help.
Thanks,
LB

I believe the trim came standard on El Caminos unless you ordered a delete for it. The woodgrain came standard on all Custom El Camino's as well, but not SS models. On SS models, yes it was black.

Thanks Shawn. I thought this was correct, but I have seen so many without the trim I started to wonder. I assume they were probably repainted and if the trim was bad it was easier just to remove than to replace it. I also wondered about the SS cars that came only with white stripes, ie black cherry, forest green, phantom blue, if this area was still black.
Thanks again,
Loren

The color is black no matter what color the car is even if the car is black.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I think we can put this to rest.
