: Spun rod bearing - more than one

Looks like I have a few spun rod bearings. All the peices of the bearings that spun are in the bottom of the pan. The engine did not come apart. It has over 100k miles on it but this is a farm vehicle. 86 chevy 4wd with Fuel injection.

I am thinking of turning the crank, replacing the bearings and get it back in the truck and run it.

Since all the parts that came apart are on the lower end, think I might get away with it? The engine never used any oil or gave any trouble until took a dip in the lake. I don't know if the cam bearings should be replaced, maybe they are ok? I'd replace the oil pump of course. the screen has a good bit of metal trapped in it.

Any ideas?

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable taking it down that far, without going all the way and checking everything.

It would be my luck that if I just put rod bearings in, about 10 minutes after restart something else would catastrophically fail.

I think your engine is probably full of bearing material, just like the oil pump pick up. IMHO, it would probably be a waste of time to just do a quick replacement on the bearings, they'd probably get trashed again in pretty short order when more of the bearing trash made it's way thru the system. Your money, your time, though.

Thats what I am wondering. There was a lot of metal in the oil screen. That being true, it can go through the system past the oil pump?

Update: Took the rear bearing off. Scored like it was running on sand paper.

Picked up another engine today that needs a simple ring job. Maybe it will get a complete bearing set too.
