Are these worth the $$$$?

I've heard they work on the regular VS or DP carbs better than the HP and Dominator carbs. The latter don't have choke horns and are smoothed for better flow already.

I bought one for holley's with milled choke horns, I ran it with inconclusive results as I had some other "issues" that day.

We use a carb hat on our 2-bbl and it's worth about 8 rwhp. The K&N Flow Control setup helped to the tune of 18 rwhp on a 4-bbl 331" SBC.

If you have a drop base air cleaner (such as a 66-69 stock open element air cleaner) it won't fit unless you run a taller air cleaner element.

Does that aircleaner base sit on top of it raising the whole assembly?

No the stub stack sits inside the air cleaner housing.

As mentioned above, it fits inside the air cleaner base. I too noticed that it was pretty close to the air cleaner lid, and didn't have the recommended clearance. I changed to a k&n filter top to take care of that. Not the cheapest route, I know, but it works (and looks cool.... :) )

Anybody know what the recommened clearance is? I'm not sure I can get anymore aircleaner in there.

If that's the case I think I would leave it out. My friend ran a moroso air cleaner and it was close. The motor wouldn't go over 6000rpm. Without it the motor went to 7000 without a problem.

I believe Holley recommends at least one inch of clearance between the vent tubes and the air cleaner lid. With a stock drop base air cleaner (66-69 open element type) you are already tighter than that.

I tried a stub stack and with it in place I couldn't even get the chrome lid on at all with a 3-inch air filter element. You'd need at least a 4-1/2 inch element to provide adequate clearance.

I found a new one for 20.00 shipped, but I think I'm gonna take the advise here and check some clearances 1st.
