GEN light indicates there is a problem with your car's charging system.

it will light up when you start cranking the car. After it starts it should turn off. At least thats what it does on my 66....

When the light comes on it usually means you are not charging the battery or you are overcharging the battery.

Thanks guys. I suspected the alternator is the problem, I checked it with a meter and it's not charging. I'll get it replace

I'd recommend you get your alternator tested b4 replacing it. It may be the voltage regulator. Most parts shops have an anternator tester on location. Good luck!

Hopefully you don't have my problem. The light works exactly opposite from what it is supposed to on my 72. As long as the engine is turning the light is on. As soon as it stops spinning the light goes out. I've had the charging system checked and it works fine. It's just that the light at night drives me crazy. I have wondered if the wires for the alternator plug were put on backwards???
Anyway good luck.
