: Paint and Body in Houston
Chas67 Feb 6th, 05, 10:09 AM Any leads on a paint and body shop in the Houston, Texas Area? Most of the major body panel work is done and I need the finishing touches and a nice paint job. Drive train is complete but the car's wiring and fuel system is not yet installed so it will have to be "pushed" around a shop. Not looking for cheesy or cheap, but I do not want to break the bank either.
Thanks

Bruce71convt Feb 10th, 05, 10:53 PM Chas67-sorry to see not more replies as there seem to be quite a few Houston area members. I've been frustrated in the past (before the wife spent the money I planned to use for body/paint)asking the same question. I go to a lot of local shows and when I see a car's paint I really like, I'll ask, and it seems almost all the time either the owner did it himself, or he says someone he knows who works at so-and-so did it for him not at the body shop.I have seen good work on one example each of Sweetwater Paint and Body and I believe Advanced Restoration. It seems like there are a lot of people good and willing to spray paint, but if you need the body work to go with it, the field really narrows. The better body shops are capable but not willing, cause all the money is in insurance collision work. Malone's Body and Paint(may be Malone's Collision or similar) does very good work and used to do restorations as Summit Restorations but I don't know if they do it anymore. I'm in the Woodlands Car Club and I'll ask around. Who knows, someday in the next decade I might again be able to afford to get my 71 convertible done.
Chas67 Feb 11th, 05, 12:32 PM Thanks, Bruce.
I continue to research as I really want my project to continue "moving along". There was a point when it just sat and I got really frustrated to the point of questioning whether I was ever going to get it done. It seems to be moving now and I really want to see the paint process started within the next 2-4 weeks to keep me on schedule (as if there is such a thing!)
Please forward any other leads.
Bruce71convt Feb 12th, 05, 9:27 PM Chas67-Just got note from The Woodlands Car Club membership coordinator that he will distribute to all members a note of mine asking for recommendations. I'l forward to you or post here
gigem Feb 13th, 05, 11:29 AM I had a bunch of work done to my car at a place called Classique Coachworks. Although they didn't paint the car, the painter (Bruce) was a really nice guy and did excellent work based on the other cars that I saw in the shop.
Classique Coachworks is no longer is business, but last I heard from Bruce he was working at a place called Global Restorations. Number is (832) 249-1910. Address is 14610 State Highway 249 Ste 402, Houston, TX 77086.
I don't know anything about Global Restorations. Never been to their shop. But if it were me I'd give Bruce a call.
You can tell him that Fritz with the red 72 Chevelle that was a Classique Coachworks gave you the name. I think he'd remember me.
Savage396 Feb 13th, 05, 2:37 PM My car was done out of Rancourt Paint and Body. 290/Cypress N.Houston. They are primarily a collision shop, but Marc has been doing more restos lately, including a couple of cars that placed in the most recent Autorama. Another place to consider is a guy by the name of Smitty, I can't remember the name of his shop, but it's on Pinemont a little ways. He did my brother's Super Bee, the car came out perfect.

plain 69 Feb 13th, 05, 4:01 PM Any place you decide on get a written contract signed when and what needs to be done. If you don't you might end up like me going to the body shop to beg for them to get finished with your car.
If they have a clean facility and actually pay people a salary to work there, it is a good sign. If you see hundreds of half use gallons of paint laying around and a bunch of unfinished vehicles that have been sitting for months beware. Hopefully you find a good reccomendation from some local guys.
Neuman Feb 16th, 05, 3:57 PM I stopped by Global on 249 yesterday and visited with Nick, the owner. Though I arrived when he was closing for the day, he took the time to talk with me and answer a few questions. A few examples of his work were very impressive and his prices seem competitive for the quality. I'm not going to mention his prices, that's for him to do - call if interested. I'll definitely consider him when the time comes.
CAM70SS396 Feb 16th, 05, 5:04 PM I'll second Malones and Rancourt---I've seen work from both and it was outstanding. I don't know if Malones has a web-site, but Rancourt's is www.rancourtpaintandbody.com (http://www.rancourtpaintandbody.com) .
I painted my Chevelle myself, and it shows.
