: New Fuel, fuel will be $3.00
Aaron Apr 10th, 06, 10:31 PM I have a had a friend who works at a gas station tell me they have been told to sell all there fuel. The reason is because some new kind of fuel will be coming out and it will not mix in the tank.
What if you mix in your fuel tank? Any problems.
This he said would cause fuel to go up to $3.00.
I hope this is only temporary!
Looks like I will have to cut down on the cruising and stuff on the weekend!!!!!!!!
Mr69 Apr 11th, 06, 1:25 AM summer formulation

thunderstruck507 Apr 11th, 06, 2:19 AM summer formulation?
jocww Apr 11th, 06, 5:44 AM like hell it is, its the same damn one but with one small change that doesnt do anything cept raise the price.
mike69ss Apr 11th, 06, 9:27 AM Summer fuel in northern states has a higher specific gravity at least it use to back in the carburetor days. To get the fuel to atomize in cold weather the SG was lowered. If I remember right summer fuel has SG = 0.75 and winter fuel is .70. So you should get better MPG out of summer fuel.
jbird Apr 11th, 06, 10:08 AM Read this story, interesting. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060411/ap_on_bi_ge/summer_gasoline

maybe this will help some of you....
mike69ss Apr 11th, 06, 12:12 PM Looks like its a new better for the environment fuel that's increaing the price. The oil companies will use anything they can to justify an increase.
John_R Apr 11th, 06, 12:35 PM What's summer here? It never gets cold enough to warrant a change, other than to further fill the pockets of the greedy, argh!
Derek69SS Apr 11th, 06, 12:57 PM Awesome! My 401K is going up again :D
JYags Apr 11th, 06, 12:57 PM One day we'll look back at $3.00 as cheap. Only question is how soon.
tigertown Apr 11th, 06, 1:55 PM Awesome! My 401K is going up again It may be going up but Will It Go as Far Spent when the time comes ;)
DragTop Apr 11th, 06, 5:19 PM i remember when it drops to 99c a gallon. 10 bucks filled up my beater. wow how much has changed in 10 years.
NWShovel Apr 11th, 06, 5:54 PM It's already over 3 bucks a gallon for premium gas in the Seattle area.
erikbuzz Apr 11th, 06, 8:04 PM If only someone honest owned an oil company...
66 Malibu Man Apr 11th, 06, 8:09 PM It's 2.99 for premium here in Pa too.
1971 Chevelle Apr 11th, 06, 8:10 PM I'm gonna fire up the @$$ kicking machine, put it in high gear, and put it behind the executives at OPEC.file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Luke/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg
Bob West Apr 11th, 06, 8:57 PM Oil is on the open market, bid on everyday on Wall Street, IF Bin Laden farts twice on Wednesday the price jumps a dime.
LeoP Apr 11th, 06, 10:10 PM We have the same formulation year round here, the pollution non attainment is the reason. IIRC, the Reid Vapor Pressure has something to do with it too.
Gokou Apr 12th, 06, 12:10 AM 3 dollars is here. I paid 3.05 per gallon for 91 octane today. Was 2.95 just a couple days ago.

There's an idea... CONSERVE! ...you'd think nobody on here had ever thought of that before. :D
The worst part of the rising price of fuel is listening to everyone bitch about it. :waving:
theclencher Apr 12th, 06, 5:14 PM ...you'd think nobody on here had ever thought of that before. :D
A quick look around reveals that it still hasn't entered too many motorist's mindsets.
Derek69SS Apr 12th, 06, 5:43 PM A quick look around reveals that it still hasn't entered too many motorist's mindsets. :sad:I still say that if your daily driver gets less than 25mpg, you forfeit your right to complain. :D
theclencher Apr 12th, 06, 6:33 PM Not only do I agree, I'd raise the bar to 30 mpg. 30 has been a readily attainable figure for what- 75 years now? Most people don't have any excuse for not getting at least 30.
DOUG G Apr 12th, 06, 6:35 PM As for the MPG of winter / summer blends. Yes 13.5 mpg winter blend and 17+mpg for the summer blend .
Derek69SS Apr 12th, 06, 6:49 PM Not only do I agree, I'd raise the bar to 30 mpg. 30 has been a readily attainable figure for what- 75 years now? Most people don't have any excuse for not getting at least 30.True, but most comfortable 4-5 passenger vehicles can just barely get 30. To get anything over 30 usually requires a small car that wouldn't comfortably seat 4 adults or a family of 5.
For some reason, we're going backwards though... my '91 bonneville will get 30hwy, my fiance's '98 bonneville will only get 27 (and I maintain hers MUCH BETTER than my POS, and it has half as many miles on it... and she drives slower  )
theclencher Apr 12th, 06, 8:22 PM That's true too, but you know what? I hardly ever see a vehicle with more than one or two passengers in it, especially adult passengers.
Derek69SS Apr 12th, 06, 8:28 PM 8-5 M-F, you're 100% right... but most can't afford one car to commute with, and a different car dedicated for the weekend trips to grandma's house with the family.
Jimmyhotrod Apr 12th, 06, 8:28 PM It's already $2.80 here in Michigan...Sucks:angry:

Oh, I don't know about that. I'm sure the overwhelming majority of households are multi-car households. I haven't seen it recently, but I know I've read that statistic somewhere too. So it makes sense to me that if you're going to have multiple vehicles anyway, at least one of them could be a little bitty commuter that gets great mileage.

I like the way you think :) In addition to the chevelle, I have a 30mpg car I drive everyday. I'm in the market for a used 4x4 pickup I can use for hauling stuff, including the chevelle to the track. The only real probelm with this plan is the extra insurance..... but If I sold the commuter car, and drove the truck exclusively, my gas bill would be much much larger.... maybe it's an even tradeoff?

The only benefit to me it offers, is that I can keep miles off my wagon... that and ~$50/month of my money stays in the US going to the insurance industry rather than to a country that wants me dead that has oil.
blumont Apr 13th, 06, 12:54 PM Gas is up to $1.05 a litre here today. Thats about $4.20 a US gallon. Allow about 15% exchange and its approximately $3.57 / gallon
We have heard here it will be about $1.30 a litre this summer
Once again the math $1.30x4=$5.20 x .85= $4.42
All approximate of course and this is for low grade. I haven't checked the price of premium yet but i will fill up the Beau this weekend and the boat (32 gallons) in a couple of weeks. The big ouch
In Alberta here we have all kinds of oil but seems not to make much of a difference in price
NiteOwlNY Apr 13th, 06, 1:58 PM I'm having a dilema right now. My truck is leased and I'm not going to buy it when the time is up, I have a year left. So I'm now shopping for a new one. The only problem is my wife and I want to get a new travel trailer and there are only 2 trucks that fit the bill to tow what we want, a 2500 Suburban or a 3/4-1 ton pickup. With the price of gas I have no idea what to do.... A hybrid Suburban would be awesome but it's just not going to happen. As it is I'm filling the tank on my Dakota twice a week and I can't see buying a truck and a economy car. I don't want to give up the ability to tow my toys around either.
dreis454 Apr 13th, 06, 2:13 PM Maybe you should look into a dedicated RV. That way you can get a smaller car for everyday driving.
NiteOwlNY Apr 13th, 06, 2:20 PM Even with a smaller car for everyday driving I still need something that can tow a car or utility trailer. It already sucks that they've made trucks into status vehicles so we're getting hammered at the dealer and at the pump.
I was kinda looking at the Toyota/Lexus hybrid but it's like a $7500 option and it would take years to recoup the cost in gas savings.
