could some kind soul please post a pic or two of a correctly done '68 dash bezel, big enough to see some detail? i have a tach dash, but i think a regular dash would work as well. i'm going to take a whack at doing my own with some special chrome paint that is supposed to be really good, but i don't know what areas are supposed to black and which are not since someone has already painted it once.
thanks
glenn

Glenn, Heres a shot of my 68 dash. It's all original. It's never been repainted or restored. If you need more pics, let me know.

thanks bill,
that helps. is there any way i could get one of the tach area closer up? like one taken through the steering wheel? also, it's hard to tell in the pic, is the area going back to meet the plastic lenses black or chrome? looks black in the pic, but hard to say for sure.
thanks again,
glenn

btw, bill, i bought my car from lebanon, NJ is that near you? the guy there had bought it from the south, from the original owners. it's a '68 SS convert, 4 speed, not loaded, but buckets, console, guages/tach, PS, added PB, amfm, some other smaller options. it was presentable when i got it and driveable, but not very nice anywhere really. the guy collected a ton of parts for it, but didn't do anything to it, so i got his parts and a pretty unmolested car. you don't buy too many '68 SS's with the original exhuast manifolds in place. but i'm missing the original carb, fan, radiator, and numberous small items. i picked it up personally and brought it back here. i looked for nearly 2 years to find a solid '68 4 speed convert.

Lebanon is about 25-30 miles from here toward Pa. Your email in not accessible. If you email me I will send more dash pics. bbss6871@patmedia.net

Here's one I copied off an Ebay ad. The tach area is finished just like the non-tach dash, then the hole is cut for the tach and the chrome bezel is inserted into the hole. Don't break the bezel, they're hard to find & $$$ when you do find one.

thanks bill L. that's a pretty good pic. i see differences between bill R's dash and this one, but bill R's is untouched so i suppose i should go with it. this one looks nice though. it's not that i'm going for a concours restoration here anyway. but the factory way, regardless of the issue in question, usually looks best in my opinion. oh, and heck yeah, those tach bezels are big $. mine was missing and i paid $150.

thanks for the help. i just got done with my detailing and i must say it turned out really well. i would suggest that anyone who is thinking of trying this, do it, you'll be amazed how nice you can make it look in about 3-5 hours. i used chrome paint on the larger areas and a testers paint pen on the small lines.
