I had posted this before but I want to try again.I am restoring a 1971 SS dash that has too much paint on it around the grain where the cluster is..what is the best and safest way to remove this paint.someone suggested oven cleaner???.also what paint code black is correct?Thank you for any help..Also anyone done a conversion from sweep dash to SS dash?..Tips?

Shannon, I tried Easy Off oven cleaner. It didn't do a thing except create a mess for me to clean off. I think that it's to risky to try chemicals to remove the paint. You might see about getting it blasted with a non-agressive media. Whatever you do make sure it won't damage your dash. These dashs are starting to be worth a lot of cash. I've been watching them on e-bay. The last one I saw went for $1525. It did have full gauges, but wasn't restored. As for paint lots of discussion here with very little consensus on the correct paint. I have a donor dash that I have shot different brands of paint on and to my eye SEM Landau Black looks like the best match. Good luck, Steve.
