i have a 70 chevelle 454, with 400 trans, it has the idiot lights, from a monte carlo dash. All compnents worked great, and all the lights were working well, until i swapped from column shift to the console shifter. I pulled out the speedo i had and replaced with a floor shift car, used speedo, and now it jumps, any way to rebuild them? or take the working part from my old column shift to the floor shift speedo? Also the gas gauge does not work at all now after the swap, and it worked before. i also put one of those aftermarket tachs that replaces the old clock, and I think thats not grounded enough as it only moves a little bit, not fully functional. any suggestions? thanks

If the speedo jumping, the cable is bad or has to sharp of a bend in it. What happens is it winds up, like a spring, then releases causing the jumping. Fix or replace. For the gas gauge, with the sender wire open it should peg to "F". with the sender wire grounded it should peg to "E". If nothing happens or little movement, its power or ground problem. Since everything worked before and you has the dash apart most likely a power or ground problem.

thanks, the gas gauge was not grounded good, but it worked fine until the gas dropped below 1/2 tank, then it falls back and springs back up again. This gas gauge only had one wire coming off it. i have another cluster with 3 wire connectors coming off it. I switched speedo's from my old column shift to my floor shift one, and just pulled off the front plate and switched plates. it works great now, thanks for the help
