: silver paint

I've been wanting to change the color of my car away from it's current '92 Saturn Aquamarine poly.

Silver is my favorite color. I could use some suggestions on what paint code/name to look for in choosing a silver.

It needs to be a PPG product, base clear urethane.

What I'm looking for is a silver that's bright and has some real brilliance in the sun. I kinda like some slightly larger flake to give it some sparkle, but not the huge flake like you saw in the 60-70's customs.

On that subject, how many different size flakes are available?

I'd assume that for what I'm looking for, that a custom mix is probably needed?

I pitted next to a nice silver Camaro at Cecil this past spring that was the perfect silver, but was unable to find out what the paint code was.

thanks
Todd

I like 1966 Corvette "silver pearl." I helped do a frame off on one that had this as the original color. Don't have a code, but the shop used PPG products.

Thanks for the help folks. I'll start looking at those suggestions.

Keith,

My buddy owns a shop that I help out at part time. He just moved his shop from Hampstead to Glenville where he bought a building. Either he will spray the car, or maybe he can give me some tutoring so I can spray it. Won't happen any time soon, but would like to probably tear the car apart in a year or so for the color change..gotta come up with the right silver first.

I have a '03 Dodge Ram truck that is silver and is attractive, but the flakes are too small and it lacks some pop or sparkle.

I saw a 50's truck in Hot Rod or another mag painted "Pro Poly silver" I am pretty sure it was made by dupont. I will see if I can find the article for you

VW has the best silver out there in my opinion.
Galaxy silver is plain jane.

PPG also has some custom colors which include a few silvers under the street silks line. Your locall PPG supplier should have the custom color book on hand.
