When I went to buy my 72 ss elky it was sitting behind a barn with weeds growing all around the car,and two of the tires were flat. The frame was on the ground on one side. When I got the car home and started hosing it down,I found a weld in the frame. It's on the pass. side about 6" back from center of wheel opening. When I tracked down the original owner, I asked him about the frame. He said,"I was just driving down the road and the damn thing just fell on the ground." He said he had a "good ole boy" up town fix it. Now I know why the front end was so shot.I'm doing a frame off restro.I thought since all the original drive train was gone, I was screwed on a #'s matching car anyway.I found a frame for $50.Seems like to me it would be easier to get the new frame ready, and slip on the body.Or do I need to worry about keeping the #'s on the frame matching. Is the original frame worth the cost of the repair.Or should I go with the new frame.

If you can find a good boxed elky frame for $50 then no question I would replace the frame, especially if you are already doing a frame off resto. If you original fell apart because of rust in one area, there is probably more rust waiting to be discovered when the body comes off.

I know this sounds like whining, but check with your DMV on the procedure for frame changes, as the frame has VIN stamped on it To get a mismatch found out later would be a drag.

Do you think changing the frame will hurt the value of the car. Thanks
