Have I gone over the top on the 4" Cowl? It looks just a bit taller than I expected it would. My body man says I should run it. He said it was the highest quality fiberglass hood he's seen. Guess he never installed a Harwood.

These pics are about two weeks old. Since then, the car has been primered and they are getting busy on the blocking.

I'd get a booster seat and cut a sunroof.

If you're short in the britches,it might be a little tough to see over. :D
That's one of the reasons why I ordered a 2.5" cowl hood from Glasstek for my 69 Elky.

What color are you going to paint your 68?

You may have a problem if you drive it on the streets. California Vehicle Code 26708(a)(2) (CVC) (http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=veh&group=26001-27000&file=26700-26712) says: "No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied in or upon the vehicle which obstructs or reduces the driver's clear view through the windshield or side windows." It kind of depends on how the local police interpret that.

A buddy of mine runs a 4" cowl on his 72 camaro. Its street driven he has been pulled over many times (never for the cowl, nor has he been ticketed for it while he was pulled over) I wouldn't be to worried about the legality of it, but you might want to stick your seats in and see if you can see over it. Might have to add some spacers below your seat to make you sit a bit higher.
You get use to it though tongue.gif .

I'm a pretty tall guy, so I don't think I'll need a booster seat. Maybe when I hit 50 and start shrinking ;)

Clint: I'm having it sprayed Sunset Orange Metallic. Still kicking around a few alternative shades. The factory color GM is spraying is pretty close though.

Rick: Nice car graemlins/thumbsup.gif

What's good enough for Rick is good enough for me. I'm gonna go ahead and keep this hood. I'll have them spray my flat hood just in case.

Hi Tim,you might want to re-think that color it's not all that great it looks like more of a rusty brown than orange.I haven't been to keen on any of the factory oranges that they have come out with lately.I have a 72 chevelle that is code65 orange flame and I haven't found a factory color better than that yet.You could check out house of color or ppg radiance for some nice oranges. One more thing you could do is have the painter spray some panels(2feetx2feet) and look at them in the sun to see if you like it or not.Just my 2 cents graemlins/clonk.gif

I will definitely have some test panels sprayed before I commit. I'm just trying to find a unique color.

That hood looks tall to you know, but it will eventually "shrink". Meaning, once you get used to looking over it and adjusting your right hand turns, you won't "notice" it being so tall. Now, your passenger will just have to suffer after that. ;)
I put one on my 92 Mustang GT, and it was weird at first driving with such a big hood. I got used to it, and plus I think it gives a car a much tougher look; like it has an attitude. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I second the having a few panels sprayed and checked out by your eyes first.

Tim, not sure what flame orange looks like but house of kolor does have some pretty bitchin oranges. They make a few sweet tangerine oranges, cant recall all the diffs from one to the next, but open up any street rod mag and you'll see some HOK tangerine orange paint jobs.

You might even try calling them and see if they would send you some color samples as they did when I was looking for a dark purple for my 70. Just mentioned I was doing a complete and looking for some examples of what they had to offer in dark blue and purples.

Worth a shot graemlins/waving.gif ...Eric

My Elky was the code 65 flame orange and now I'm going with the same Sunset orange also :D I think it'll look nice, add black stripes and a black vinyl top and she's set
I don't have any pics of it being orange tho, since it was painted black b4 I got it.

I resent that remark, Clint. :D :D I'm a bit short in the britches (5' 8" on a good day) and I can see over my 4" Glasstek hood with no problems. Well, on a good day I can see my side of the car, the passenger side front is still an educated guess, but I've got it down pretty good... graemlins/thumbsup.gif

See here for a driving example (http://www.dalesplace.com/travels/index.htm) - bottom of page. I was sitting way back in the seat to get the dash shot, but it's not too bad really.
